Cloudscapes Cloud Landscapes from Above

Mar 23rd, 2017

During my trips, I started taking pictures and videos to incorporate them into my paintings.

Ever since my first flight at the age of 4, I have been excited about flying and admiring cloud landscapes through the plane’s window. Since then, not much has changed; it is fascinating to me how just the elements of water, particles and wind can combine to create so many different shapes. Every time I fly, I am mesmerized by watching cloud formations from above, especially when they overlap to form landscapes with interesting patterns and textures.

During a flight, my favourite moment has to be when the plane breaks through the clouds. On rainy or snowy days, the clouds divide two different worlds; above, the sun is shining in a bright blue sky, while below, everything is overshadowed with dark greys. I can’t help but look now and then out the plane’s window to admire this striking contrast.

During one of my last trips, I took pictures of some interesting cloud formations. At this point, I am not sure how I will incorporate the material in my paintings yet, but I am already working on a few concepts. In the meantime, I thought I would share some of the scenes I captured with you.

As stated in my art goals for 2017, I planned to create my own YouTube channel, which I finally did: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdnZ-_oy9JyhZ0V4jD6SRug. Below you will find a time-lapse of a landing in Newark, NJ showing a breathtaking view of New York City.

For my next post, stay tuned for a new set of intuitive paintings in which I experimented with Acrylics and China ink.
