While tweaking the cloud scanner, I ran a proper first test on an aerial video I recorded earlier this year.
The result is encouraging. The detection already works rather well, though the footage admittedly plays to the script’s strengths: the contrast between the clouds and the sky is visibly strong, exactly the condition under which the tool sees best. The difficult cases from my last note, dark clouds and soft edges, still lie ahead.
Next, I will turn to the detection rectangles themselves, tightening their drawing and perhaps spacing them out more evenly for a smoother result. One iteration at a time, the sky becomes legible.
