Artwork Description

Closed Value System explores the concept of ownership of blockchain-based digital currencies such as Bitcoin. Media reports regularly surface of people losing cryptocurrency on discarded hard drives and old computers. These reports suggest that the coins are lost along with these devices.

However, as currency holders, we only hold the right to spend digital money in our wallets. Lost access to our wallets represents only the loss of the right to transact, which could be restored with the right seed phrase words. The currency itself will never leave the blockchain, making the blockchain ecosystem a closed system similar to the hydrological cycle.
