About This Work

Artwork Description

Cloud of the Present was created for the Inner Voice exhibition at Danae gallery in Paris as a physical extension of the second chapter of the digital triptych Known, Uncertain, Unknown: My Past, Present, and Future. As with its counterpart, the sculpture extracts and materializes one of the 3D models from the animation, grounding the digital in physical form.

The background of the digital work draws on my cloud photography and videography, a body of material that has informed many of my recent artworks and animations. Where the past chapter was rooted in the handmade and the modelled, the present reflects a practice that has grown in scale and complexity.

This evolution is embodied in the 3D models featured in the animation and in the sculpture itself. Alongside weaving, I began revisiting geometric patterns first developed in high school sketchbooks. These patterns entered my physical work through subtraction: cutting into pattern pieces to create additional layers and negative space. The sculpture translates this subtractive logic into three dimensions, with patterns carved directly into the basic cloud forms.

Scale is also central to this chapter. The work explores larger formats, installation thinking, and a progressive fragmentation of pattern, breaking motifs down into progressively smaller iterations to generate shifting textures and visual depth. The sculpture holds all of these impulses together, functioning both as an autonomous object and as a material echo of the animated landscape it accompanies.
