Curatorial Text: The Art of Punk is the world’s first museum exhibition by artists from the CryptoPunk community. A unique insight into the creative dynamics of a community that operates at the interface of art and technology. Traditional art forms such as painting and sculpture are presented alongside digital works such as AI art, NFTs and generative art, as well as on-chain art, poetry and music. Only works by artists who own one or more CryptoPunks are on display.
This NFT project from 2017 has significantly influenced the world of digital art, inspired countless other NFT projects, and is now part of museum collections such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the MOCA in Los Angeles.
A remarkable community has formed around these unique blockchain collectibles, which may even be partly responsible for the cult status of the CryptoPunks themselves. Among them are pioneers in the field of blockchain technology, but also digital art, technology enthusiasts, nerds, developers, project founders, passionate art collectors and several artists. A selection was made from many submissions showing a representative cross-section of this community’s work.

The ART OF PUNK is held in the Linz Francisco Carolinum Museum and the Metaverse Voxels from September 4th, 2024 till January 26th, 2025. The virtual exhibition is accessible 24/7 via www.ooekultur.at.
